David Binnie
Regional Officer East Midlands
David joined ASCL in March 2007. His professional career spanned six schools in Walsall, Solihull and Staffordshire, with half his career spent in two headships. School sport and music were his particular passions.
In the regional officer role, David says he is always struck by the deep commitment he finds in ASCL members.
He adds that the variety of work is challenging yet energising, ranging from policy based discussions with local authorities to supporting branch secretaries to advising individual members in difficulty. Whilst experience built up in school is invaluable it has been stimulating to gain new knowledge and skills.
Away from work his interests include live music, in a wide range of genres, membership of his local rugby club (regrettably no longer playing), exploring the varied landscapes of Britain and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Richard Warrillow
Regional Officer South West
Richard was appointed to the regional officer team in September, after 17 years as a head in South Gloucestershire. While there he ran a collaborative sixth form with two other 11-18 schools and hosted the local authority's integrated provision for students with a physical disability.
He taught in Yorkshire and Cheshire before moving to Oxfordshire where he was chair of the very active Oxfordshire Association of Deputy Heads.
He says his first impressions of working for ASCL are of the variety of schools and colleges in which members work, and of the vital importance of the association's swift support to those in need.
Richard is married with two grown-up children and a granddaughter. He enjoys walking up mountains, the Cotswold countryside and is discovering new areas of the South West and the M5!
