Dismissal award for discrimination

If a person is dismissed from his or her job as a result of discrimination, then not only does the ceiling come off the award, and life-time earnings may be awarded, but if the person is then victimised by other employers for taking action to assert his or her rights, the original employer will have to pay. There are also awards for hurt feelings (known to lawyers as 'Vento bandings'). These have recently been up-graded and are as follows:

  • Lower band: now up to £6,000

  • Middle band: now up to £18,000

  • Upper band: now up to £30,000
