Single status agreement
ASCL is supporting individual members in several areas of the country who are running into conflict with their local authority over single status agreements.
The guidance on the School Staffing (England) Regulations 2003 clearly states that, in relation to school non-teaching appointments: "The LEA (sic) must appoint the recommended person on the terms proposed unless he or she does not meet the staff qualifications for the post."
On that basis, schools do have the final say on support staff pay. For the full text of the relevant section in the guidance, go to www.ascl.org.uk and click on the current issues page.
ASCL realises that relations with local authorities are rarely straightforward. If you need individual support, contact the hotline on 0116 299 1122.
