Revitalise your whole school community

School food standards and five hours of sport will only do so much - ASCL members know that the best way of developing healthy children is to get their parents engaged in healthy eating and exercising more.

Of course it is not an easy challenge; many parents do not want help or support. But, according to ASCL partner Revitalised, still more parents genuinely welcome it.

Revitalised works with over 200 schools nationwide, making its Online Personal Health Management System (OPHMS) available to their communities. This includes staff and their families, students and parents and feeder primary schools.

The OPHMS is an interactive website with a mixture of personally tailored programmes and general advice, including exercise plans, weight management, healthy eating and stress.

Parent usage has been the biggest success and is generated mainly with a feature on the school website with a link to their OPHMS login page. This, coupled with occasional reminders in parent newsletters is a great way of engaging parents in the initiative.

Revitalised now has more than 25,000 parent members nationally - that's approximately 50,000 children whose family homes are leading healthier lifestyles.

"We're extremely proud of this impact and want to double this number by the end of 2009," says Andy Reynolds, Revitalised managing director. At a fixed price of under £900 a year, the OPHMS is a cost effective way of fulfilling a range of school objectives while positively encouraging a healthier community.

One of the benefits of ASCL membership is discounts and special rates on a range of personal and educational products and services. There are healthcare products, financial advice, online staff well-being systems and self-evaluation surveys. Check out www.ascl.org.uk for the full list.
