Support for college funding
SHA is supporting the Association of Colleges (AoC) campaign for more funding for sixth form and general further education colleges.
However, we have stressed to the DfES that equality must not be at the expense of students in school sixth forms. This is one occasion when we must raise the bar, not level it.
Currently colleges receive at least 10 per cent less per student than schools for providing the same courses.
John Dunford said at the AoC press conference on 9 February: "Present funding systems are often the result of historical accident rather than any rational assessment, and the difference in funding between schools and colleges is a clear example."
