Challenge mounted to Ofsted decision
ASCL is supporting Cockburn College near Leeds in its campaign to overturn a decision of 'notice to improve' by Ofsted. With the backing of the association and the local authority, the school has issued a formal complaint to Ofsted.
"I was very surprised that Cockburn was given an Ofsted category," said ASCL inspection consultant Keith Dennis who has worked with Head Colin Richardson during the complaints process.
"I am convinced he is leading the school in the right direction and has got the priorities right.
"The school is highly regarded and very successful in improving the life chances of its pupils. It would be a real tragedy if the excellent staff at Cockburn were demoralised by what's happened, because we need people like them."
The school has since been awarded membership in the SSAT's Most Improved Schools Club.
