Reducing paperwork for SEN
Reducing the bureaucracy associated with SEN and disability is the aim of a statement issues by the Implementation Review Unit (IRU). The purpose is to help schools maximise the time teachers and other professional spend with children with SEN, while minimising paperwork.
It sets out the legal obligations on schools in relations to children with SEN and disabilities, and the flexibility available to schools and local authorities.
The IRU message to schools is that some are doing more - and some local authorities are requiring more - than they need to be legally compliant.
If best practice is not used in an area, the matter should be raised first with the local authority. If this does not produce results, contact your ASCL branch secretary or ring the hotline on 0116 299 1122.
