ASCL Council election results

The votes have been counted and ASCL's next vice president has been named as John Fairhurst, head of Shenfield High School in Essex.

John has been on ASCL Council since 2005 and he has chaired the Education Committee since 2006. He has also served on the International Committee, MAPS Committee and Executive.

John represents ASCL on the 14-19 Alliance and on joint association consultation groups. He is a QCA teacher association representative and a member of the Nuffield Foundation Research Group.

Shenfield, which John has led for the last 14 years, is an 11-19 mixed comprehensive with more than 1500 pupils.

Elections for national Council seats were also held in the spring term. The elected representatives are:

  • Ian Bauckham, head, Bennett Memorial Diocesan School, Tunbridge Wells

  • Beverley Birchley, deputy head, Duke of York's Royal Military School, Dover

  • Vicky Bishop, head, Sir Christopher Hatton School, Wellingborough

  • Mike Griffiths, head, Northampton School for Boys

  • Graeme Hornsby, assistant principal, Lutterworth College

  • Philip Ingram, head, Southmoor Community School, Sunderland

  • Peter Kent, head, Lawrence Sheriff School, Rugby

  • David Trace, head, Ramsey Grammar School, Isle of Man

  • Christine Wright, head, St Wilfrid's RC College, South Shields
