Extended schools
It was interesting to see in an otherwise generally accurate newspaper that schools "must" provide extended activities from 2010. Leaving aside the practicalities of funding, staffing, vetting and other considerations, it is worth noting that there is no statutory basis for this. A minister who departed in one of the previous re-shuffles did say that she wished schools to do this. However, at present, the law of England does not give a minister's wish the force of law.
