Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we share the news that ASCL associate member Geoffrey Tate died suddenly but peacefully on 12 June.
Geoffrey joined the association in 1972, when it was still the Head Masters Association. As an honorary member, manager of the associates' support service, chair of the Associates' Committee, trustee of both the ASCL and HMA Benevolent Funds and contributor to the ASCL/Frizzell retirement seminars, he will be much missed.
Members may also remember Geoffrey from his years as a Council representative and as chair of Education Committee. Others will have know him as head of Littlehampton Community School in West Sussex where he served for many years.
Geoffrey is one of only a handful of members who have been made honorary members but never held the office of president. He was given the honour for his exceptional service to the association over more than 30 years.
His gentle, approachable nature belied an astute mind. As one of his former pupils said, he was an inspirational teacher and a true Christian who lived by his faith and made it operational in his teaching.
He leaves a widow, Averill, and we extend our sympathy to her and their family.
