Welcome to colleges consultant

ASCL is very pleased to have Christine Tyler join us as Colleges Consultant in September, following her retirement as Principal of Eccles College in Salford. She will represent the interests of our college members and work to raise the profile of college members within and beyond the association.

Originally a teacher of English and drama in Liverpool and later in Norfolk, Christine moved part-time to further education at St Helens College whilst bringing up her family.

She says that she taught anyone who would stay still long enough to learn and especially enjoyed the challenge of working with different vocational groups displaying varying levels of interest.

This experience proved a useful background to her subsequent full-time work as a teacher trainer on the City and Guilds 730 and later PGCE courses, which she helped to develop as part of her next job in staff development at Halton College.

Halton's difficulties in 1998 led to the acting principal role at the college, whilst she prepared for her move to Eccles College.

Whilst at Eccles, she has been working in partnership with other colleges to build collaborative approaches to developing curriculum and student opportunities.

She says: "I look forward to working closely with college colleagues in order to raise their agenda in ASCL and to working with both school and college-based colleagues to maximise networks within the association to the benefit of students."
