Aviva on the scene as floods hit Cumbria

On Friday 20 November, Aviva claims investigators arrived in the Cumbrian town of Cockermouth amidst the devastation caused by the floods and heavy rain to set up an insurance help desk in their evacuation centre.

As the first insurer to arrive, the team extended their help not just to Aviva customers but to anyone who needed advice - as part of its major incident response planning, the team carries the contact numbers of other insurers too.

The team worked tirelessly over the weekend, helping many people whose homes and businesses had been affected by the floods. Some of the team met Gordon Brown on his visit and were also praised by Hilary Benn, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, who came to offer his support.

It wasn't just insurance advice the Aviva team were helping with - they also contacted the Major Incident Response Planning team which arranged for extra supplies of bottled water and hand gel to be delivered to the centre by the RAC when stocks were running low.

It was a great example of Aviva teamwork at its best.
