Names and faces

Carole Baldam, Registrar

Having worked for SHA for 17 years as Carole Wright, Carole managed to beat the association to a name change by getting married to David at the end of May.

She is responsible for the internal running of SHA and, along with her able team, administers SHA's finances, human resources and building, as well as council committees and elections. She is also secretary to the Benevolent Fund and Project Sri Lanka.

Carole is a member of Rotary International and enjoys the 'simple' things in life, like reading, walking, dancing, good food and wine. Her indulgence is travel, particularly to Italy, and she and David are currently trying to get to grips with the language.

They have six grown up children and three grandchildren between them.

Bob Hargreaves, Field Officer

Bob spent his career in independent and state schools, finishing up as head of an 11 - 16 comprehensive in Hampshire. He took early retirement and became a field officer in 1994.

Bob joined SHA in 1980 on taking up headship and was elected to council the same year as John Dunford. He was committee chair for SHA Area 3 in 1994 when the annual conference came to Bournemouth, and has 'volunteered' at the event ever since.

Married with two daughters and four grandchildren, he now lives (and walks) in the Yorkshire Dales, where, as a Lancastrian, he says he has done missionary work for many years! That still leaves time for his allotment in a limestone walled garden overlooking the valley of the Wharfe.

Bob says, "As the years pass, I have an increasingly rosy view of my own headship, but I am humbled by the talents of members I meet, whose achievements, often in very difficult circumstances, shade my leadership into insignificance."
